My bed looks so nice that I don't want to use it now, though I know that I will need to soon. It feels really tough, but I will have to see if it can withstand the test of time and use. I love how shiny it is! Here are some things to consider:
#1: Watch videos online. They really helped me understand the installation instructions.
#2: Do ALL of the preparation! Sand, clean, rub with paint thinner, and tape!
#3: Two coats worked just fine for me, and I still have about a 1/4 gallon left. My hitch receiver was starting to get surface rust, so I prepped and painted that as well (see pictures).
#4: Wear gloves! This stuff is great, but awful at the same time. It has been over a week, and I still cannot get some of it off my hands (I even used acetone). I wore gloves the whole time except for the cleanup, which I should have just kept them on.
#5: There is a reason this kit comes with a brush and rollers. Every tool you use with this will be sacrificial. You will have to throw out everything you use, because there is no cleaning it.
#6: While using the brush, dab (do not stroke)
That is all I can think of right now. Good luck!

I applied it on top of the previous spray/roll/brush whatever it was liner. That liner was probably a good 12 or 15 years old. Dried, cracked, scuffed, dented. I prepped the old by filling the cracks or cuts with a glue and sanding everything so the new would adhere well. I'm sure I at least roughed it up. I vaccumed and cleaned it per the instructions before applying the liner material. I used both the roller and a brush applying a coat letting it sit and another coat hitting the bed a bit heavier then the sides although I did coat the top of the stake area because it was previously coated that way. The final looks pretty good. Its very gritty textured. I couldn't do anything about some small dents in the wheel well areas but it looks much better than before and the cuts that were in the previous liner are filled in. For a 17 year old work truck it looks pretty decent. It will suffice till I find a pristine box to replace it with. About the material, wear gloves and some clothes you will be okay if you had to toss them because even wearing gloves this stuff can find you and its hard to clean up. The roller can splatter a little or brush drip, believe me somehow some way this stuff wants to stain you lol. I will post a pic.

The paint brush worked well to go around the edges and seams the first time, but had to use a new brush for the second coat as the first one was hard as a rock even wrapped in plastic.
The first coat takes a LOT longer than 1-4 hours, ours was closer to 18 hours before I felt ok to stand on it. The second coat
went on great and seemed to harden a little faster. They say you can use it after a day or so for light hauling, but I would not suggest that.
The rollers worked great and was nice that they provided 2. I used a small, plastic, disposable tray to but the Herculiner in. It was easier to move the tray around in the bed of the truck instead of the can.
We have a short-bed truck and had plenty left over. I put it in a Tupperware tub and sealed it so it would not harden. Checked the mixture 2 days later and it is still useable.
It really turned out well, very pleased with the results. Was much easier than I anticipated and looks very professional. Just be aware that the time between coats is much longer than what is stated in the directions.

bought this over a year ago and it sat in the garage.. decided to apply it finally. a couple videos said stir thoroughly, they were under exaggerating i think... you need to stir this stuff a lot. it takes a while by hand but it will mix.
Cons:
most videos said it takes between 1-4 hours to set or become "not tacky" for your second coat i found it took over 6 hours until it became not tacky. not the end of the world just manage your time accordingly.
i was warned but in a video one man explains that this is a polyurethane based paint, which means it sticks to everything. I thought he just meant be careful what it touches... i think he meant to say if you get it on your hands its not coming off for a while... not the end of the world just wear some kind of gloves, just sucks i was to stupid to do so.
once you dip your roller in the paint it is very saturated with the product and literally just throws it all over the place unless you very lightly just roll it on. yet again not the end of the world just need to get used to the best way to apply it.
Pros:
this stuff is awesome. goes on nice and thick after that second coat.
really nice texture to it, literally has the texture of a spray in box liner.
really durable, maybe not for anything over 5 years but its super easy to re-apply over old liner.
everything i have seen says it takes 1 gal. to paint a 6' trucks bed (my gmc is 5'8") i did 3 coats and probably have just over half a can left. maybe i was being stingy but doubtful after doing 3 coats, you could most likely do a 8' box no problem with a 1 gal bucket.
this stuff is pretty stupid proof, and will literally roll and stick on anything. i sanded and scuffed up all of my box except for one spot to see if it was any different at all, i cannot tell in the slightest. I am not saying do not prep the surface properly!!! but on the 12"x12" section of my box i left i did not notice any difference in application or finished product.
All in this is and incredible product for what you pay. it cost seven or eight times more to take this in and get someone to spray a box liner in. i am super happy with this product and would gladly recommend this to anyone.
