Product Description
From the Manufacturer
The celebrated battle between the U.S.S. Constitution and the H.M.S. Guerriere during the war of 1812 was actually the second time these two frigates had met on the open sea. A few weeks prior to their historic conflict, a British squadron led by the lordly Guerriere surround the frigate. With escape seemingly impossible, the captain of the Constitution, Isaac Hull, ordered out the small boats and by kedgin a maneuver whereby an anchor was dropped some distance ahead and the hawser heaved in, the sip was gradually pulled forward. Hull also ordered most of the fresh water pumped overboard and the sails wet down to catch every breath of air. The Constitution escaped. several weeks later the two war ships met again, alone this time, and the mighty Constitution completely destroyed the Guerriere

This model is listed at their highest level of difficulty, and justifiably so. You have to do a lot of tricky painting, and more than that, boy, will you ever be tying tiny knots! Wow, they really have me cursing on some days.
However, the results are looking awesome. The model is very detailed, and seems to be well-thought out. The instructions are actually readable (for the most part), and they offer useful tips. The most important tip they offer is to USE THE RIGHT TOOLS. This is not something you can just snap together in a couple of hours. This is a model that will take painstaking patience and detail over the course of WEEKS or MONTHS to assemble and finish. I'm not done yet, but I love how it's turning out!
It looks great, even though the model's made of plastic it doesn't really show, and painting some of the areas (Like the deck) to cover it up makes it look WORSE, not better. So enjoy it! I highly recommend getting a pin-point glue applicator, because some of the parts are incredibly small. Some super thin pliers help too. Also, for the hull of the ship I would definitely advise using super glue or an equivalent, because model glue just doesn't dry well enough or strong enough for this massive ship. The ONLY bad thing about this model are the sails, which are kind of cheap looking plastic. However, five bucks at your local hobby store for some white fabric and that issue is easily solved.
In other words, if you have always wanted to build a model ship, buy this!
