Whatever the next item is on your to-do list -- whether it's arriving at the jobsite before dawn or getting your travel trailer set up in time to see the sunset -- CURT class 4 trailer hitches offer greater towing power to let you Bring It. These custom receiver hitches are built to tackle bigger jobs and bolder adventures, all while giving you a custom fit for your vehicle. Class 4 hitches are available for a variety of makes and models, from pickup trucks and SUVs to full-size and commercial vans. This particular class 4 hitch fits certain years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 Classic or 1500 HD Classic and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500 Classic or 1500 HD Classic (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 10,000 lbs. GTW and 1,000 lbs. TW. It can also accept a weight distributing hitch, offering a maximum WD capacity of 12,000 lbs. and a WDTW of 1,200 lbs. CURT class 4 tow hitches are as much suited for work as they are for play. With their high load capacities, they are typically used for towing larger trailers, including everything from a double-axle utility trailer or livestock trailer to a full-length camper or large boat trailer (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). All CURT class 4 receiver hitches come with a 2" receiver tube opening and all the necessary hardware for a complete installation. From light-duty to heavy-duty, every CURT custom hitch is engineered to be vehicle-specific, using actual vehicles to create the optimal design. We then combine high-strength steel, precise welding and a co-cured finish of liquid Bonderite and durable black powder coat to provide you with a hitch you can depend on. To prove it, we test all our hitches in accordance with SAE J684 for safety.

    The hardest part of this install was actually the removal of the factory light-duty bar under the frame/bumper (2014-forward). Accessing the bolts without busting knuckles was a challenge. Not included in the instructions is the requirement for a 1/2" socket to remove the two bolts behind the license plate/step.Some installers of similar products suggest the new bar can be installed without lowering the full-size spare, and you probably could, but the included instructions suggest otherwise and I found it to be much easier overall. I rolled the rear of my truck onto wheel-ramps for my install and that also helped tremendously.The bumper was delivered nearly bare and with the hardware/instruction packet taped to the receiver box. There were numerous scuffs on the bar from transit/delivery.Once I removed the light-duty bar, the hardest part was lifting the new bar into place and getting the bolts started. This probably would have gone smoother if I'd enlisted some aid. I essentially bench-pressed the bar into place and holding it up with one arm, started one of the most aft bolts with my left hand. There wasn't much to it after that, just some aligning and tightening.Per the attached picture, this bar is NOT an exact OEM fitment. The top picture is the install of this bar on a 2018 Silverado. The bottom picture is the OEM receiver on my 2015 Sierra. These trucks share many chassis and frame parts off the assembly line. The Curt bar sits about 1-3/4" lower than the OEM bar on the Sierra. This may be because it wasn't designed to fit into the bumper cutout in later-model C/K1500 trucks, as it is supposed to fit pre-2014 models as well as 2014-forward (bumpers with corner steps).For my purposes it is not perfect, but will do the job I need. If you're looking for an OEM fitment, this bar is not for you.
