Things got off to a rocky start as I struggled to remove the new opener from the clam shell packaging. Things got worse when I attempted to program the remote using the same method I had used to program the original. I pushed the purple "learn" button on my opener, held down the button on the new remote, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I unpacked the directions (I know, it's my fault for not reading them first). This new remote has a button, labeled "PROG", on the back underneath the metal clip. You have to press this button and then click the desired button on the front 1-3 times (depending on the color of your learn button) to setup the remote. Once this is done, you press the learn button on the opener and then the desired button on the remote and you're all set. It's pretty easy (if you read the directions). It took about 10 minutes to do the whole thing, although it would have been less than five if I had read the instructions first.
Now that everything is programmed, it works exactly as it's supposed to. The range is good and a quick press reliably triggers the door to open. I like that there's an indicator light to indicate that it's transmitting, this is something my previous model lacked and it made it harder to troubleshoot what was going on when it stopped working. The only thing I don't like about the remote is that it's very hard to open (not that I needed to, just being thorough here). I had to use a screwdriver to pry it open and it chewed up the plastic a little bit. Once open, I note that it takes the same CR2032 coin cell battery as my old remote (and several other electronics I have lying around). It's a minor annoyance that will (hopefully) only be necessary a couple of times per decade.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied. It reliably operates my Chamberlain opener and is easy to program (if you read the instructions).
