So far the amp has performed great. I actually got the Mini Mega over the MiniMAX for the extra wattage. 1000 watts RMS at 4 ohms and 700 watts RMS ar 8 ohm load. I run the older TVX series of Peavey cabinets, a 2x10H, 1x15, and 4x10H, each rated at 4 ohms, sort of a rarity now in bass gear since most amps are not rated anymore at 2 ohms load. The newer Class D amps dont like it apparently. To run two of these 4 ohm cabs I needed to make a series/parallel switcher box with combo connectors so the amp sees an 8 ohm load cabs in series. This amp cannot handle a 2 ohm load if I parallel connected them. This was my only unique challenge.
The compressor is very handy. Not too sensitive. The semi parametric EQ for the mid range is very versatile. Plenty of tonal variety much like my Peavey MAX 700 bass amp. It has combo neutrik twist lock and 1/4 speaker outputs. That made me happy to have both connectors available. Nice little gig bag it comes with too. The LED light show and backlighting is great extra flare and perfect for dark stages. Knobs feel solid and smooth. Doesn't feel cheap. I do suggest pulling the plastic knob away about 2mm from the face of the amp so it doesnt feel like the knobs rub against it. Small design flaw that can be compensated for.
Cool feature is it has an "aux in" to pipe in music to play along to. Great for jamming along. I normally practice this way, but I utilize my studio headphones through the headphone jack when I dont want to shake the walls. Thats another great feature, but it falls short. The op amp for the headphone jack is weak. It cannot drive studio quality high impedance headphones to full volume. Cheaper headphones with lower impedance will drive louder. I use Audio Technica ATH-M40fs headphones rated at 60ohms and 1300mW of power. To compensate for the lower drive power of the Mini Megas HP jack I use an external headphone amplifer, a Douk Audio U3. It adds very little noise and gives me plenty of drive volume.
Only other gripe with the headphone jack is that its 3.5mm and not a 1/4" output. The jack is also below the face of the amp and some 3.5mm plugs with a wide body wont fully engage possibly popping out by the spring inside. I bought an adapter for it and it works perfectly. There was no lack of face plate real estate, they should have put a 1/4" jack on there. I posted a few pics of how the adapters fit. The gray adapter wire is the one that works best without issue.
I posted a video on the fan noise, and honestly my camera mic is super sensitive, the sound is NOT loud at all. Thats the low speed too. It does speed up when the amp is really working, but you won't notice it while playing loud bass. In a small room practicing its not noticable.
The crunch channel like others said is useable, but not the greatest. I got an overdrive pedal for that sound. The Kosmos knobs are actually a very cool feature im really starting to like. The sub octave one is VERY USEABLE! The 2nd "psycho" kosmos feature def works with small cabinets, but to me its just another low end boost. Nice feature still.
Finally I did snag the midi footswitch for this amp. Pricey IMO but its a great complement to the amp head's features.
Overall the build quality is better than expected, and the tone is consistent with my older Peavey amplifier. I'll update my review as time goes on and I'm able to gig with it to really test it out. This is a later production model so I'm confident any design bugs have been corrected for as the amp has been on the market for a few years.
