As others have said, this strap isn’t very “stretchy” and has a stick-to-your-skin coating so it stays in place during flip turns,l. So while plenty comfortable in a swim, it’s NOT a run or bike strap. But Garmin has straps that work great for those too.
Update 9/4/2016: the monitor still works flawlessly, however, the strap at the link is deteriorating quickly even after following rinsing/cleaning advice. After about four months (about 2.75-3 hrs lap swimming in the pool per week), i'm not sure how much longer it will hold. Trying to contact Garmin for advice.

Edit: The strap has disintegrated beyond repair at this point (6 months after purchase) and is no longer usable. I've written to Garmin and receive only a reply saying " I'm sorry, we do not sell the individual strap for the HRM-Swim. You will need to purchase a full replacement. " with no offer of resolution. I'm writing back again but holding out little hope that they will offer a resolution. For the moment, since the monitor itself still works, I'm going to try cutting the strap from an old swimsuit and creating a makeshift strap to see if I can still get any use out of it, but given Garmin's lack of responsiveness or any care to support their product, I will not be "purchasing a full replacement for this product" and I'll be looking elsewhere for a new sportwatch as well. Reducing my rating to one star.

It would be interesting to hear about this from Garmin or from other users. Even for long-distance running, I would think the user would like to know how their HR changes during short spurts of effort. I'll be primarily using my SWIM 2 for swimming HR.
BTW, Garmin claims that the HRM strap is more accurate than the Swim 2 by itself, and it makes the Swim 2 switch to the HRM if it is available. This is probably because it is notoriously difficult to get a reliable HR measurement while swimming. For example, the Polar H10 shorts out in a salt water pool (see my H10 review). I find that if put the Swim 2 on fairly tightly (as recommended by Garmin), the HR readings are reasonable and reproducible. I had hoped that the H10 would provide a simultaneous measurement to compare with the Swim 2, but no luck there.

But it's not that comfortable for non-pool activities because it sticks so well to your skin. It's not elastic like every other heart rate strap I've owned. It's adjustable to one position and not flexible.
I'm debating buying a second adjustable strap for non-pool workouts, but I've been saying that for months. It's not that uncomfortable, more like an annoyance.
It does work great, no problems with it other then comfort.
