Works Well Initially But Needs to Stand the Test of Time - To Be Updated in 1 Year
Fully Replacing the Pool Pump***FULL DISCLOSURE***This is an ADVANCED DIY project to take on yourself. If you're NOT experienced doing this type of work leave it to a Pro. Here's few thing you MUST be highly comfortable with:1. Electronics or electrical concepts. My pump runs on a 230v circuit.2. Cut and weld PVC pipe with and use PVC cement3. Have repaired or removed your pump before.- Background: Having had my pool built in 2009 the original Hayward pump lasted about 6 years running without a problem. Since about 2014 age started getting to the Hayward pump. I had the impeller replaced originally, It lasted a few more years till about 2020 at which point I had to replace the motor. It cost me about $700 bucks. Since I had already removed the whole pump unit off the pool system I knew how to remove the unit. At the end of this 2023 summer system my pool service man advised me the pool pump was throwing the breaker and therefore had a hunch the pump was gone. I decided to replace the pump. I found the specification dimensions for my Hayward pump to ensure I was buying a unit that would fit the tight space. I found various choices online, both Hayward and off-brand. Trying to save a few bucks I decided to take a chance on an Amazon off-brand unit. **Make sure you get an equivalent unit in voltage, dimensions, and HP.**- Receiving the PumpThe units came in packed in an extra large Amazon box, they could have saved a box and just sent it in the original manufacturer packing, the original manufacturer pump box was actually well protected and had plenty of packing.- Dry Fitting the PumpI quickly found the pump was slightly taller than the original, about .75 inch taller. That meant I had to cut the 2.5 inch PVC pipe before the check valve to raise the inlet fitting so I can glue the new pump fitting that screws to the pump. I also had to buy some new PVC fittings and a new check valve, approximately $100 more.- Installing the pump**Electrical** Most important! Take a picture of the wiring before you uninstall your old pump. If you have a 230v circuit, Hire a pro or know what two wires are hot and which is common and where they're connected. My pump is controlled via a 3-cuircuit control unit. There a good diagram to start with in one of these review threads, your electrical configuration may be different, so KNOW what you're getting into. Label your wires and use a permanent marker your designate your connectors (eg...L1=LO...etc) The provided instructions were pretty useless to me.I removed the 2.5 inch behind the check valve and installed a reducing elbow to fit the 2 inch check valve and pump fittings that come with the unit. there was little room left to glue the new fittings back on and the pump ended up a little high overall. I bought some small 1 inch rubber mounts to raise the pump a little and hopefully muffle some of the sound and vibration. The rubber mounts worked perfectly!I also installed a 2 inch PVC union to make it easier to remove and repair the pump in the future.- What's the OutcomeIt's only been a few weeks but my pool is back to being nice and blue and the pump is doing it's job. I have a vacuum connected and when it's running on high the vacuum crawls smoothly, as it should. I would say I saved at least $1500 doing the work myself but I consider myself very handy, quite technical and have accumulated the correct tools over the years to do this type of work. It did take an extra week and a half to get a reducing elbow I couldn't find locally. Kudos to the pros that do this for a living, and so long as they're not charging an exuberant amount for a new installation (NOT including the pump), knowing the pump was installed correctly is worth the cost.***BIG TIP***Keep the water levels at good levels all the time! These units are not meant to run dry, If the impeller cannot pull water consistently, the motor will be run hot and DIE!******I'll give this Pump a year end-review around this time in 2024 and see how well this pump is still holding up. Under the right conditions, this pump should have a good 3-4 year life, minimum. Let's see if it stands the test of time.Hope this was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pump So Far!!!!
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2020
First I’d like to say that this pump is on the top 10 list. I’m old school, been hooking up these motors for some time, the thing that confused me at first was there was no Thermal Protection, No capacitor. I don’t see this information anywhere, so I’m passing it on to you to save you the research, I’ve had to go through. Then I googled some information, that California has some new power consumption ordinates. THIS MOTOR does not have a capacitor. “According to Section 1605.3(g)(5) of California's Appliance Efficiency Regulation, California requires: Pump motors that are made after January 1, 2006, cannot be split-phase or have a capacitor start-induction run type. Motors with a total horsepower greater than. 75 must operate at two or more speeds.” So after this was established I hooked the pump up to my pool system, found the High, Low and Common from my pool control relays. (My Pool System is controlling this pump completely automatically) Hooked the pump up, not using the High Low switch contained. The Pool pump is very pleasingly quiet and powerful. What I love most about this pump as it’s very quiet. My old Hayward pump was loud, annoying to relax in my back yard, this pump, it’s so quiet, you hardly know its running. All in all, I hooked this pump up myself, as the warranty requires you to register within 14 days with a receipt from an electrician, which I didn’t do. It’s about the 3rd of the cost of a Hayward. I will be purchasing this pump for my future pool pump needs. (Especially since I re-plumed my pool equipment for this pump). I just installed it this weekend, so I don’t have a longevity report yet. I’ll post more information in about a year. My last Hayward lasted 9 years, my neighbor states he's been changing his newer Hayward pumps about every year or two. I've found Replacement Haywards between $500 - $1200 not installed. So that makes this an incredible value. Hope you find my review helpful.

UPDATE: 5/24/2023
I purchased this pump Jan 20, 2020, and it's still going strong!!!! I will order another one when needed. I will get a little bigger pump, but other then that absolutely NO COMPLAINTS!!!!
