When I first got this, I figured if it lasted a few weeks until I got through a neck problem I was having, I'd be happy.
Well, the neck is just fine now and, in spite of this bottle feeling a little plastic-y (compared to your grandmother's red water bottles of yore), and the stopper feeling more plastic-y still, it has held up really well. There has never been a leakage issue from the opening/stopper.
There is a smooth side and a ribbed side that has small, diagonal ribs. It also came with a super soft, and super adorable, cable knit turtle neck sweater. It's amusing when you see it in real life and is provided to keep a buffer from direct heat on your skin. I just use hot tap water and so I don't use the sweater, but it's there and it works.
So, yeah, a nice value and it's holding up really well. I'd buy another if/when this one finally gives out.

I like the construction of the bottle, it's durable, practical, and just the right size but the fleece sleeve is strange. I hate the knit one, but that's just personal preference.
It holds heat well enough, but not as well as advertised. My only complaint is that it doesn't hold heat through the night. I wake up to a bottle barely above room temperature at 4 in the morning. not fun. I put very hot water in the bottle too.

This water bottle is the bomb! Fill just less than 2/3 of the way with hot water the top up with boiling water and screw on cap and I have heat for hours! (Too much boiling water and it will burn!) At night it warms the foot of my bed to begin, then it's up near my body for the rest of the night. I've been sleeping deeper and longer with this aid! During the day it's on my lap, or under a blanket for my cats to snuggle up to. Far cheaper than an electric blanket and lasts longer!
The covers arrived in perfect condition, no signs of mold or stains as others have mentioned. The knitted cover is easier to get on, even when the bottle is full, and the thinner blue cover is cute, but can only be applied or removed when the bottle is empty.
The bottle is easy to fill and there have been no issues with leaking.

Right now my toes are toasty warm and my tiny 4-lb dog is under the down blanket with his toes on the hot water bottle's knitted cover, too. What comfort and joy.

The gray "sweater" cover is of lovely quality, much softer than I expected. The bottle itself is great. No smell of plastic. It fills easily and holds boiling hot water with ease.

As others have suggested: fill the bottle with the cover already on. Be sure to have a small towel/rag handy to wipe away any water from the lip of the bottle, before you screw in the top. I like to squeeze any air out of the bottle,before screwing in top----don't fill too full, let the bottle be a bit flat for best snuggling-with-toes action.

If you use boiling hot water, this unit will stay nicely, wonderfully warm for hours.

Highly recommend this item.
