I'm not a monitor "connoisseur" as it's not my expertise, but as a PC builder & gamer, this monitor is fantastic! I upgraded from a mid-range 120 hz flat screen 1080p Acer monitor to this gem; and while the improvement isn't leaps and bounds, it's certainly worth the upgrade.
I received a perfectly working monitor - no dead pixels, no power problems, etc. Literally plug 'n play, a few color adjustments, and that was it.
As for 'bleeding' - I don't think I have any. If I do it's minor and something like that doesn't bother me anyway. The stand is rock solid - made of metal w/ RGB lighting at base and back of monitor. Even has a 'light show' effect on back. Some questioned this since it's at the back and cannot be seen by user, but it's for those in a public / social event or if the monitor is NOT facing a wall; it's for the onlookers, not the user. It's not necessary, but I like it. And if someone doesn't, the lighting can be turned off.
The stand sits a little too high for me and unfortunately there is no height adjustment (unless I overlooked it); but it's not a big deal. The viewing angle is fairly large and tolerant before the picture quality distorts. It can be tilted up/down along with a swivel action (left/right).
As with any monitor, you'll need to play with the settings. The white and brightness of this thing was giving me a sun tan, but after some tweaking, the calibration is near perfect. Colors are vivid and there is no input lag (video lag) during gaming/video. Blacks (color) may be the only downside - it's a bit difficult to see in dark areas but not horrible.
G-sync is great - another feature that was easy to setup - and increases overall graphics quality by a large margin. (G-sync requires an Nvidia card and DisplayPort cable to work, along with proper in-game settings.)
The user interface for the monitor is easy to use, especially with the 5-way pin (whatever it's called) on the back to adjust settings. From now on, I will hate any monitor that doesn't have this 5-way pin - Asus spoiled me.
27 inches is barely large enough for a curve to even matter, but matter it does! I'm glad I went with the curve.
Some may ask, "Why didn't you go with a 4K monitor?" I wanted a gaming monitor and 4K just isn't worth it yet. For watching videos, sure, maybe; but not gaming. 2K resolution is a sweet spot: high resolution + high frame rates, which 4K cannot reach & maintain over 60 frames. On top of that, a beastly PC is required to maintain 4K resolution at 60+ frames. At that point, it's a gamble if a particular game is optimized well enough to allow for steady 120+ frames even when the technology reaches that point. Simply put, 4K gaming isn't ready yet. If you're planning on watching movies more often than playing games, then 4K might be your best bet, but not for me.
Overall, very pleased with this purchase. I will update this review if needed.
It did arrive today. No dead pixels, no backlighting. A lot of users found this monitor to have washed out colors and in this regard, out of the box, it did not look too bad. However, I decided to tweak some settings, especially the contrast and brightness and to make it look better, I decided to use Nvidia color settings which allowed me to increase saturation.
Honestly, after doing that, I find this monitor to have a very good color rendition and far away from washed out as a lot of users have addressed.
It's been only a few hours testing it and I will update this review as the days goes by and testing it with a lot of games. Assassin Creed Odyssey looks awesome and Fallout4 is looks also great. This monitor excel in the response time. It is very smooth and I have it at 165 Hz setup. Perhaps I was lucky to receive a very good copy but again, I have not seen any dead pixels, no backlighting ( I tested it with the screen completely dark ) and regarding the colors, well, I cannot complain at all. Colors are if not excellent, very close to that rating.
I am a photographer and I like my pictures to be sharp and colorful and I am very picky about resolution, so I can say that I am very happy so far with this monitor. The curvature of it, makes my game more immersive, so to finish this up, if you want to have all the specs this monitor offers, go for it.
My previous monitor was the Viewsonic 27 inch IPS 1440p 144 ( 165 Hz ) and comparing both side by side, it is very narrow the difference between them. So I am giving it a 5 star review. Honestly I had a bias about it and if it did not satisfy me, I would have return it tomorrow but I am happy I was wrong.
Ordered ASUS ROG Swift PG27VQ (Curved display) August 19th, 2018 at approximately 1:00am
Received August 21st, 2018 at approximately 1:30pm
Packaging :
Monitor and contents were secured by a hard packing styrofoam shell as most electronics like this are and was packed in a high gloss cardboard box which was then packed in a standard brown packing box. The contents included the monitor, the power supply, a USB B cable, an HDMI cable, a Displayport cable detachable monitor stand and back plate, and LED lens cover (For the LED projection under the stand)
Issues :
I noticed some slight flickering (very minor and not even noticeable when in game.)
Monitor is said to be 165Hz but it's actually a 144Hz monitor with built in overclocking capability to 165Hz. I haven't tried to go up to 165Hz just because from my knowledge overclocking a monitor will impact the colors which this being a TN panel, I don't know if it would have the color depth to sacrifice for an overclock and still look super crisp and sharp.
Things to note :
I haven't touched the color settings at all and it looks really good. I have zero dead or stuck pixels as of right now. There aren't any weird lines or discoloration and I haven't noticed any back-light bleed yet at all.
I will update this review in 6 months, unless anything changes between now and then.
Top reviews from other countries
G-sync - If you haven't experienced it then you just don't understand. Its amazing.
The curve - It's not noticeable at a distance while watching movies which is a good thing. Up close you can tell it's there and it really pulls you into the game while playing.
Picture quality and size -The size is perfect for both up close and watching movies from across the room. The quality of this monitor is amazing and you can really see detail in everything from the desk top to in game.
Refresh rate - At 165mhz OC and 144hz stock its everything you need I've personally never used a anything higher so can't speak to anything above 165hz
The stand - It's unique and you'll need a large enough desk. Nothing huge but something with a little space at the back. The light at the bottom is a nice touch but I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there.
Gaming and specs - I run an I5 8600k @4.8ghz with 16gb ram @ 3200mhz, paired with an ASUS ROG strix 1070ti. It'll push this monitor at a steady 125+fps on max settings in all modern games
Price - I bought this monitor on sale for 949.99 which was great.
Cons: Literally none with the monitor - for Amazon I was surprised I didn't have to sign for such an expensive item the guy just door dropped it but I was hope and able to bring it inside immediately
Reviewed in Canada on January 24, 2022
It worked for 3 months and in November it got broken, with white lines all over the screen, deformed text and other glitches.
I submitted an RMA and Asus gave me a shipping label to send the monitor to them. I brought my monitor to Fedex, they packaged it and sent to Asus. A day later Asus emailed me that monitor arrived with physical damage and offered me to pay for the repair (a price literally higher than a new monitor) or submit a claim that the product was broken by Asus or Fedex. (the claim doesn't work, they just respond that I have to pay).
So, to sum it up, I spent $949 initially, then got broken and I had to deliver that heavy monitor to a Fedex myself and pay for transportation. Now Asus wants me to pay another $993 to get it fixed. Of course I am not going to pay a single cent more or reject the repair. I'll go ahead and buy a normal monitor form a better brand instead.
Also, again in August, I bought an nvidia 2080 from Asus and got an nvidia 1060 in a box of 2080 (lmao). Thanks to Amazon it got replaced the next day.
