Customers are mixed about the ease of cleaning the food smoker. Some mention that the slide in drip tray underneath collects drippings well and is really convenient to empty and clean, while others say that dirty water dripped from the corner of the door on to the floor, resulting in grease leaks out onto their pavers. The externally accessible drip pan is very nice, but some say that it gets the job done but it leaks grease from the bottom which stains outdoor tiles. Black puddles form around the bottom and the door frame bubbles and drained black on their wood deck. It is easy to use but not so easy to clean out, and the steam causes drips of greasy water down the legs and door making a mess.
"...It is easy to use but not so easy to clean out.I use wood chips and the burn out after about 2-3 hours. I don’t mind switching them out...." Read more

Customers have negative things to say about the temperature control of the food smoker. They say that the control is not the greatest, the analog gauge leaves them guessing, and the smoker doesn't have a set the temp and walk away feature. They also say that there isn't enough heat transfer to generate good smoke, and that the sides and door are not insulated.
"...Temperature control is analog, so you have to watch a little to get desired temperature dialed in but then it’s good to go. Only improvement..." Read more

Seasoned , then ran first smoke with pork ribs , turned out great. Since then have smoked pork butt for pulled pork and polish sausage twice. Both were awesome , great smoke flavor. Easily maintains temperature, even though I was around 50 degrees outside. Temperature control is analog, so you have to watch a little to get desired temperature dialed in but then it’s good to go.
Only improvement would be if you could add more wood chips during a long smoke, but if you have temperature dialed in , it will get back to temp. relatively quickly after closing door , so not a huge deal.
Overall, so far a great smoker especially at that price !
Say the temperature, just look at the gauge on the door to adjust the temperature. The grate that holds the water and wood chips is a bit clunky but I'm using a pan on bottom rack to hold the drippings so no problem. So far I've made bacon wraped Dijon mustard chicken breast and county style pork ribs. Very yummy and going to smoke a brisket later in the week. So far I LOVE IT and it was cheaper than the digital! Legs are easy to put on and comes WITH the smoker unlike the digital that you have to purchase separately.
Some things to consider:
Temp control is an issue, the analog gauge leaves you guessing at temp.
Temp gauge seems to be off about 25 degrees on mine. I purchased an additional temp probe to help manage my smokes after my first try.
With my additional probe I've noticed some pretty big swings in the internal temp of the unit. I try to find the sweet spot where the average falls where I want to temp to be.
The only access to wood chip box is by opening the door, this let's all the heat and smoke out every time you need to reload.
In my opinion it's a good starting place to learn on and I've enjoyed it and the food has been delicious according to those who have had some. I am looking into a pellet smoker now that I have a better grasp on what to look...
update : I had noticed that the paint in the gap between the unit and the door was starting to peel when ever I used it. I just got finished using my smoker for the 5th time and noticed the paint that was peeling started to stick together. I usually smoke around 225°. I use a double probe grill thermometer with high heat alarm so I know the temp never went above 275°. I would have figured that Masterbuilt would have used a height temp paint on the unit. I'll just clean off the loose paint and continue to use the unit which is still working great.
